Competition rules

INDIVIDUALS

  • Qualification:

    • Maximum number: 200 individuals

    • Competitors are divided into two qualification groups (A, B)

    • Each group assembles a 500‑piece Ravensburger puzzle with a different motif

    • From each group, 50 fastest competitors from the Czech Republic and 5 fastest foreign competitors advance to the final

    • Qualification time limit: 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes)

  • Final:

    • A total of 100 competitors from the Czech Republic + 10 foreign competitors

    • Puzzle: 500‑piece Ravensburger

    • Time limit: 75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes)

  • Foreign competitors compete outside the official championship ranking.

PAIRS

  • Qualification:

    • Maximum number: 120 pairs

    • Division into two qualification groups (A, B)

    • Each group assembles a 500‑piece Ravensburger puzzle with a different motif

    • From each group, 30 fastest pairs from the Czech Republic and 3 fastest foreign pairs advance to the final

    • Qualification time: 75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes)

  • Final:

    • A total of 60 pairs from the Czech Republic + 6 foreign pairs

    • Puzzle: 1000‑piece Ravensburger

    • Time limit: 120 minutes (2 hours)

  • Foreign pairs compete outside the official championship ranking.

TEAMS

  • Maximum number: 50 teams

  • A team consists of 3-4 individuals.

  • Each team receives one 1000‑piece puzzle and one 500‑piece puzzle by Ravensburger.

  • Time limit: 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes).

  • Foreign teams compete outside the official championship ranking.

  • Stacking rules:

    • Teams choose the order of puzzles themselves

    • Only one puzzle may be laid out on the table at a time

    • After finishing a puzzle, the team calls a referee, who checks it, records the time and allows them to start the next puzzle

    • If a team decides to swap an unfinished puzzle for the other, the first must be fully disassembled and placed back into the box

Foreign participants

  • Only participants with a registered address in the Czech Republic at the time of the competition may compete for the title Czech Jigsaw Puzzle Champion.

  • Foreign participants may take part in the competition but compete outside the official championship ranking.

  • In the individuals category, a maximum of 5 foreign competitors from each qualification group may advance to the next round.

  • In the pairs category, a maximum of 3 foreign pairs from each qualification group may advance to the next round.

  • The participation of foreign competitors does not reduce the number of advancing competitors from the Czech Republic.

General rules

  • Each round starts on the organizer’s cue. Until then, participants may not touch the puzzle boxes on the table.

  • Before the competition, all plastic wrapping and stickers will be removed from puzzles.

  • Finishing the puzzle: A participant who finishes or is about to finish raises their hand to call a referee. The referee records the time and shows it to the participant for confirmation. Later objections will not be considered.

  • Penalty for missing pieces: If pieces are missing when finishing, 10 seconds per missing piece will be added to the recorded time.

  • If no one finishes within the time limit, the winner is the participant with the highest number of correctly placed pieces (only groups of at least 3 pieces count).

  • Final score is determined by the number of placed pieces and the finish time.

  • Puzzles received in the competition remain the property of participants after the event.

  • No age limit. Persons under 16 may participate only when accompanied by an adult.

  • The competition is open to participants not only from the Czech Republic.

  • 1st-3rd place in each category receive prizes - a puzzle, a trophy, a small gift - valid only for participants from the Czech Republic.

  • The organizer reserves the right to change the rules - current rules will always be available on czjpa.cz

Additional rules

  • The organizer may assign a spot to another participant if a competitor doesn’t arrive within 10 minutes after the round starts. In such a case, no refund is provided.

  • In case of cancellation, the entry fee is refunded only if you cancel no later than 15 days before the start of the competition.

  • Movement in the competition area is allowed only for current round participants, referees and authorized staff

  • When sharing a table with another competitor, it is forbidden to interfere with the neighboring space.
